Cream Puffs
Cream puffs are always a delightful dessert for the holiday season. These are a tad festive for the New Year!
Ingredients:
Pastry
- 1 c. water
- 1 stick butter, unsalted
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1-1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 c. flour
- 4 eggs
Filling
- 2 c. heavy cream
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla
Optional:
- 1 c. melted chocolate chips
- red and green sprinkles
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
- Combine water, butter, salt and sugar in a pan. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and continue stirring.
- Stir in flour until evenly combined. Return pan to heat for 30 seconds.
- Transfer dough to a mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Turn on low and add one egg at a time until 3 eggs are combined.
- Place dough in a pastry bag. Pipe 2 inch balls onto a greased baking sheet.
- Add a bit of water to the 4th egg and brush the pastry to smooth over the points.
- Bake 15 minutes. Lower heat to 375 and cook another 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Allow cream puffs to cool on baking sheet.
- Whip cream, sugar and vanilla until firm peaks are formed. Place whipped cream in another piping bag.
- Poke holes into the sides of the cream puffs and fill with whipped cream.
Optional:
Drizzle cream puffs with melted chocolate and then shake sprinkles on top.
