Country-Style Baked Beans
Country-style baked beans will quickly become a favorite barbecue side dish. This easy recipe combines canned baked beans with peppers, onions, and bacon.
Ingredients:
1 28 oz. can baked beans (any variety)
1/2 lb. bacon, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 onion, diced
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp. spicy mustard such as Grey Poupon Horseradish Mustard
1 tsp. red pepper flakes
salt and pepper to taste
Steps:
- In a saucepan over high heat, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon and place on a plate covered with paper towel to drain.
- Remove most of bacon fat from the saucepan, leaving enough on the bottom to saute’ onions and peppers until softened.
- Add beans, bacon, brown sugar, mustard and spices to the saucepan. Cook 10 minutes on low heat.
