Country-Style Baked Beans

Country-style baked beans will quickly become a favorite barbecue side dish. This easy recipe combines canned baked beans with peppers, onions, and bacon.

Ingredients:

1 28 oz. can baked beans (any variety)
1/2 lb. bacon, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 onion, diced
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp. spicy mustard such as Grey Poupon Horseradish Mustard
1 tsp. red pepper flakes
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. In a saucepan over high heat, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon and place on a plate covered with paper towel to drain.
  2. Remove most of bacon fat from the saucepan, leaving enough on the bottom to saute’ onions and peppers until softened.
  3.  Add beans, bacon, brown sugar, mustard and spices to the saucepan. Cook 10 minutes on low heat.
