Chocolate Sausages

Everything’s better in chocolate — even sausages! This is a delightful dessert with an Italian heritage.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 c slivered almonds
  • 1/2 c chopped walnuts
  • Two plain biscotti, chopped
  • 6 Tbsp. butter cut into small pieces
  • 12 oz. semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 c. coffee
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1/2 c confectioners sugar

Instructions:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Place almonds, crushed biscotti and walnuts on a baking sheet. Bake until nuts are lightly browned. (6-8 minutes)
  3. Place butter and chocolate in a microwavable bowl. Heat for 1 minute on high. Stir until smooth. (Reheat at 20 second intervals if more time is needed).
  4. Stir coffee into chocolate mixture.
  5. Add nut mixture from baking sheet and orange zest.
  6. Place in refrigerator and chill until firm.
  7. Divide chocolate dough mixture in half. Roll each half into a log about 7 inches long. Roll each up tightly in plastic wrap. Refrigerate until firm.
  8. Remove chocolate sausage from plastic wrap and roll in confectioner’s sugar.
  9. Slice into 1/2 inch slices to serve.
